Greening Lilongwe Campaign
His Worship the Mayor Councillor Richard Banda launched the Greening Lilongwe Campaign on 19th January, 2022 at Kaliyeka Primary School. Greening Lilongwe Campaign is an initiative of the Lilongwe City Council (LCC) in collaboration with the Lilongwe Chapter of the Global Landscapes Forum (GLFx Lilongwe) and the Open Spaces Inc to restore degraded open spaces and riverine buffer zones, establish green schools, offices and homesteads, and plant avenue trees along the major roadsides in the City. The initiative will also include restoration of the city’s Area 18 Cemetery and also will make Lilongwe City greener, healthier and resilient to extreme climate change events and other shocks. The Mayor also distributed tree seedlings to some households in the city as a way of encouraging the residents to plant a tree each at household level. All city residents, including the public and private sector, religious groups , government departments and parastatals, banks and all well wishing citizens are encouraged to unite and participate in this noble initiative for our city, for our health and well-being, for our climate, for our nature, and for generations to come.+11
