Lilongwe City Council engages market leaders ahead of registration exercise
Lilongwe City Council has engaged market leadership and key stakeholders in a consultative meeting held on 5th May 2026 at Civic Offices, aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving the management of city markets.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss key issues affecting market operations while also sensitising market leaders on the upcoming market registration exercise, which is set to commence next week.
The exercise, being implemented with support from ICLEI Africa and GIZ, is expected to enhance market fee collection, support effective planning, and improve overall service delivery. The registration will also pave the way for the automation of market revenue systems, helping to reduce inefficiencies and promote accountability in market operations.
Market leaders have since been encouraged to mobilise traders and support the successful implementation of the exercise, as the Council continues its efforts to build well-managed and economically vibrant markets.
