About Us

The Lilongwe City Council was established under the Local Government Act No. 42 of 1998 as a body corporate. The Council comprises the Political and Administrative arms which both derive their authority from the Local Government Act of 1998. The Political  arm is led by the Mayor who is an elected councillor. The mayor is in charge of 27 Wards each overseen by an elected Councillor.  In addition, there are four (4) elected Members of Parliament who represent the Lilongwe urban sector. There are also five (5)  ex-official members representing interest groups. The Administrative arm of Lilongwe City Council is led by the Chief Executive Officer who oversees nine (9) technical departments and devolved sectors, including Commerce & Trade, Engineering, Education, Youth & Sports Sector, Parks & Recreation, Health and Social Welfare Services, Planning & Development and Finance.

Purpose of the Job

To provide ICT support services

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Supporting the development of directorate system functional specifications
  2. Installing and configuring computer programmes and software and other regulatory standards
  3. Maintaining and repairing ICT equipment
  4. Monitoring and implementing effective utilization of ICT resources, equipment and accessories
  5. Assisting in the identification and resolution of ICT troubleshooting activities
  6. Providing user support services to staff
  7. Supporting the provision and management of systems administration
  8. Developing, arranging and maintaining ICT inventory
  9. Preparing and submitting reports

BASIC SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Good knowledge of computer hardware, software installation, configuration and maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve common hardware and software faults.
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking, including LANs, routers, switches and network connectivity.
  • Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot operating systems, applications and peripheral devices.
  • Good understanding of ICT systems administration and user account management.
  • Basic knowledge of ICT security, data protection, antivirus and access-control practices.
  • Ability to maintain accurate ICT asset inventories and technical records.
  • Ability to provide effective user support and technical guidance to staff with different levels of ICT proficiency.
  • Ability to explain technical issues in simple and understandable language.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond promptly to ICT support requests.
  • Good time-management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Education Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in ICT or related field

2 years’ experience in laboratory work
