Donation of K20.5 Million from the National Bank of Malawi to LCC Aids Frontline Safety and Fresh Councillors’ Training

Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has gratefully received a substantial donation totaling K20.5 million, aimed at strengtheng public safety and enhancing the capacity of its newly elected members.
The larger portion of the donation, K15 million, is specifically in the form of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) materials. This critical contribution is intended to equip LCC staff and front-line workers, ensuring their safety and the continuity of municipal operations. The PPE includes items vital for maintaining health and safety standards in the delivery of services to Lilongwe’s residents.
The remaining K5.5 million has been allocated to support the orientation and capacity building of new council members. This crucial investment will fund training sessions designed to familiarize the new members with their roles, responsibilities, city governance procedures, financial management, and development planning. Effective orientation is vital for ensuring that the new council can swiftly and competently engage in the city’s governance and decision-making processes.
LCC expressed profound gratitude for the timely and generous donation, noting that it addresses two critical areas of need: public health preparedness and effective leadership transition.
The LCC commits to ensuring that both the PPE materials and the funds for orientation are utilized transparently and effectively to maximize their positive impact on the city.
